Motor Show Event in Sydney to Cancel

·

Biggest Automotive Exhibition Event to Australia, Sydney Motor Show (AMS) finally officially canceled in 2009 because of the brand holder sole agents (ATPM) failed to lobby the Australian motor show organizers to combine the three Australian automotive exhibitions, namely the Sydney Motor Show (SMS), Melbourne Motor Show ( MMS), and the Adelaide Motor Show (AMS) to just one exhibition, the Australian International Motor Show (AIMS).

MMS was due to be held later this month until mid-March, while the SMS which was originally implemented in October 2009 will be postponed until 2010.

SMS-party committee, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), and the committee MMS Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC) has agreed an agreement that both events will be the road together and will be named the Australian International Motor Show.
This agreement occurs in response to a boycott conducted a number of SMS ATPM last year that requires the implementation of a major automotive event only.

Eighteen car brands that do not participate in the SMS last year including Porsche, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi.

As a result of this boycott SMS sales during the exhibition last year dropped 40% compared to the previous year.

"This industry should be a benchmark Australian economy if it is held to be a single large event. We all should learn from the case of SMS 2008," said

FCAI chief executive Andrew McKellar.

He added that all parties should be able to unite opinion to create a single large event and successful.
